Il Golf Club Biella "Le Betulle" è stabilmente uno dei campi TOP 5 in Italia e già la strada per arrivare ti fa capire che il campo è inserito in un contesto naturalistico fantastico, tra boschi secolari talmente fitti con scorci da paesaggio da favola.
Appena parcheggi capisci che sei in un posto speciale. A sinistra il campo pratica e a destra la club house e la partenza della 1 e della 10.
Entro nella club house, british style e una signorina molto gentile sbriga in maniera efficiente le pratiche per il green fee.
20 minuti di campo pratica, 8 minuti di green e sono sul tee della 1.
Qui il tempo si ferma per qualche secondo (un po' come nel film La Leggenda di Bagger Vance), guardo la buca, par 4 leggero dogleg a destra e capisco che sarà una giornata stupenda, su un campo "mitico", ma allo stesso tempo difficile. "Oggi o gioco bene o nonmipassapiù" mi dico nella testa. Metto giù la pallina, sul tee, ho il driver in mano e bum, la tiro centro fairway ( a 190 mt. - per me bella notizia). I miei compagni di gioco anche loro tutto bene... Secondo colpo scelgo il mio ibrido Callaway, che di solito non mi tradisce, sono lì che guardo il green in lontananza e uno dei miei soci mi dice "ma sei sicuro di usare quel bastone?" Lo ringrazio per l'osservazione (in realtà penso ben altro...) e gli dico che dato che quel bastone ce l'ho con me in sacca e la distanza è quella giusta, "si sono sicuro". Bum, lo prendo bene, guardo la palla che vola e si ferma 2 mt. prima del green, posto leggermente in alto tipo "vulcano". Sono contento e dedico un pensiero al gufo del mio socio...
Approccino e 2 putt, bogey, per me medio di handicap, un ottima buca, non potevo iniziare meglio.
Le buche proseguono, a volte le gioco bene a volte meno, a volte segno qualche X (alla fine saranno 3). Lo score finale è di 33, sono soddisfatto perché il "campo non mi ha ammazzato", ma sono riuscito a giocarlo e a divertirmi. La più difficile è la 3 (non solo per me, infatti è hcp1) e la più spettacolare è la 16, con una vista mozzafiato sulle Alpi.
Se avete l'occasione, andate a giocarci, questo campo merita. I fairway sono curati, morbidi, soffici e verdi come dovrebbero essere in ogni campo, i green ti sfidano, non sono mai scontati e riuscire a fare 2 putt è già da fenomeni. Quello che però da soddisfazione è giocare in un luogo che capisci essere fatto per il golf...non so come spiegarlo. Per fare un paragone è come quando nello Europen Tour parlano di gare come il PGA di Wentworth (quello vinto da Manassero nel 2013). Si parla di magia, di storia e tradizione, di cura dei dettagli e di silenzi, che in questo campo, quasi ovattato, sono solo interrotti dai rumori della natura.

The Golf Club Biella "Le Betulle" is one of the best golf courses in Italy, stable in the TOP 5 ranking and one of the best in Europe. The road to reach the club shows a fantastic natural contest, full of ancient woods and fairytale landscape.
Already in the parking area you understand you're in a special place. To the left the practice range and to the right the club house and the hole 1 and 10.
I'm entering the club house, truly british style and a young lady, very kind, is efficient to give me the directions for the course and all the amenities.
20 minutes of practice range, 8 minutes of putting green and I'm ready at the hole 1.
Time collapses for some seconds (a little bit like in the movie "The legend of Bagger Vance"), just the time to take a look at the hole, a Par 4 dogleg to the right and I understand that it can be a wonderful day of golf, on a mythic course, but at the same time it can be difficult. "Today, or I'm going to play well, or it'll be a loooong day for me". I set the ball on the tee, the driver in my left hand, and I'm ready: bum, the ball flights at 190 mt in the middle of the fairway (for me a great shot). Walking down the fairway I decide that the second shot is going to be with my Callaway Ibrid. One of my friends ask me "Are you sure to use that club?""Yes I'm sure" (it's in my bag, it's not here to take a walk on the grass - I think). Bum again, the ball lands 2 meters before the green. The hole ends with approach and 2 putt, so it's bogey (very happy for a middle handicap as me).
The play is going on, sometime I play well, sometime not. At the end the score is 33 points and I'm happy "because the course hasn't killed me" and I had fun. The most difficult hole is hole 1 (in fact is the hcp 1) and the most amazing one is hole 16, with a wonderful view on the Alps.
If you have the opportunity to play this course, you have to do it, because the experience is unique. The fairways are perfects, soft, green everywhere, the greens challenges you, never easy and come out of them with 2 putt is something not obvious.
But the best part is the place, the atmosphere...I don't know how to explain. To let you understand is like when the European Tour is played to Wentworth. The words are about tradition, history, magic, details and silence, that on this course is just interrupted by the nature.
